*01 New Study Indicates Online Ad Increase

According to Forrester Research Inc., which published the study, "U.S.
Online Marketing Forecast: "2005 to 2010" increasing number of consumers
are using the Web to get news, sports and entertainment reports and to
buy products and services.

Online consumers today spend about a third of their time online, either
at home or at work, which is roughly about the same amount of time they
spend watching television, Forrester said.

The study, based on an online survey of 99 of the nation's largest
marketers, found that 47 percent would send more online at the expense
of traditional channels. Eighty-four percent of the respondents planned
to increase their online budgets this year by an average of 25 percent
over 2004.

Total online advertising and marketing spending is expected to reach
$14.7 billion this year in the United States, a 23 percent increase over
2004, according to Forrester. By 2010, online ad spending is expected to
reach $26 billion, or 8 percent of all advertising dollars spent.

Search-engine marketing is expected to lead the charge, with spending
projected to increase by 33 percent this year to $5.7 billion. By 2010,
search-related marketing is expected to reach $11.6 billion, or 44
percent of all online spending.

This caps off what Morgan Stanley managing director Mary Meeker said
describing the Internet as "the most underutilized advertising medium
that's out there," (4/26/05).

Then look at this: "Internet advertising revenue is growing at a faster
clip than television advertising, which could slowly begin losing its
global share of revenue in 2007, according to the latest ad spend
predictions." … "The Internet is easily the fastest-growing medium --
Internet ad spend grew 21 percent in 2004 and we expect it to grow in
double digits in each of years we forecast. (from ZenithOptimedia
4/18/2005)

There is even more; So-called "vertical search engines" are becoming the
rage among portals like Google, Yahoo! and AOL, because they narrow down
the relevancy for the viewer, buyer and advertiser. The Internet 800
Directory such a search engine.

So why aren't YOU advertising in the Internet 800 Directory?
(And, even if you want another Internet advertising model, such as
Google, we can help you with that, also.)

*02 What are index.dat files?

Index.dat are system files in Windows that contain the URL to every Web
page that you have ever visited. If you use Outlook or Outlook Express
the index.dat also contains a log of every email that have been sent or
received. All windows browsers use hidden files to cache information
from the sites "to speed browsing", but the index.dat file remains
behind, even when you delete the cached files.

In Windows 98 these files are located at:

\WINDOWS\Cookies\index.dat
\WINDOWS\History\index.dat
\WINDOWS\Temporary Internet Files\index.dat
\WINDOWS\Cookies\index.dat
\WINDOWS\History\index.dat
\WINDOWS\Temporary Internet Files\index.dat

In 2000/XP they are in these locations:

\Documents and Settings\\Cookies\index.dat

\Documents and Settings\\Local
Settings\History\History.IE5\index.dat

\Documents and Settings\\Local
Settings\History\History.IE5\MSHist012001123120020101\index.dat

\Documents and Settings\\Local
 Settings\History\History.IE5\MSHist012002010720020114\index.dat

\Documents and Settings\\Local
 Internet Files\Content.IE5\index.dat

These files contain information about your use of the computer; things
like credit card information and passwords can be exposed.

To get a sense for what kind of information you can find in your
index.dat file, Google "index.dat viewer" and you will find several
freeware programs that can read these files.

Deleting the index.dat information is tricky. The index.dat files are
'in use' by the operating system while running windows, which means
simply deleting them won't work. There are software applications
specifically designed to clear out these files and can be found by
searching Google.
