Tip Of The Week --------------------------------------------------------------------- *01 E-Mail Auto-Replies E-Mail Auto-Replies have been around for a long time, many people use them to let you know that are away from their office. You have probably received an auto-reply that reads, "gone on vacation be back on the 23rd" or "sorry I'm out be back on the 7th". These types of messages really make me wonder if these senders have thought out what they are doing. This same person would almost certainly never place a message on their answering machine at home that said, "Can't take your call because I'm out of town, I will be back on the 4th". Maybe they didn't give any thought to the fact they are informing anyone that sends them an e-mail that they are out of town and what day they will return. With today's e-mail, most of it comes from people or places you've never heard of before. Not a group I'd want to inform my house is going to be empty. There is nothing wrong with using an auto-responder to let people know that you received their e-mail, but you should use these common rules: * Don't disclose the exact dates you'll be gone. * Don't make public your location or situation. * Don't give you name or phone number. Remember auto-replies are sent to anyone that sends e-mail to your account this includes, spammers, scammers and phishers Chuck Arning chuck@inter800.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- Are you paying too much for your toll free calls? However, my old West Texas upbringing forces me to do so. I just witnessed a person "jacked-around" because he signed a legal document several years ago that limited his actions to what he can do today. The documents that he signed said that he cannot do what he needs to do, in order to make a living, because the customers that he sold became property of the company that he represented at that time. Although I understand the need for a clear understanding, at the outset, of what a person's responsibilities and rights are within any given job, and I understand the need for a company to retain its assets, I also believe that a Corporation, which is an entity within itself, must take on the identity and the integrity of the people who run it. I believe that the case in point would be Enron. If one is so dominated by one's own power, or need, how can one be "fair"? Fairness is the way one would want to be treated, if one were objective, by someone else. If one stands back and actually perceives it from the other person's point of view, would he actually make the same decision? Or is it possible for him to do so? Is his own self-preservation and enhancement so important that he ignores others'? Another point - and I'll try to let this go - if one negotiates, in good faith, and is unable to perform, because of whatever circumstances, then the other party needs to look deep within his heart to give him another chance. And I will tell you right now, that's not just Christianity, or Islam or Buddhism or Communism or whatever one believes, that is just humanity ...... the way it should be.
