*01 Credit Card Transaction Fees

Welcome to the “The Internet 800 Directory Newsletter”. For those of us that use the Internet to transact business, processing credit cards is critical and the fees that are charged are, “just another cost of doing business”. This week, I received an e-mail from Rob Frankel detailing a problem he had with credit card transaction fees.
---------Start Story----------
Well, it finally happened. The horror stories about CardService International finally hit me when fraudulent charges (not the fault of Authorize.net) got hacked through the web and from my account.

Authorize.net caught the fraud and stopped it short.

CardService International, on the other hand, simply watched 8000 transactions come through (8000 transactions for zero dollar amounts) and charged me for every single one of them (a whopping $2600 and change) without ever notifying anyone about it. CardService International will do nothing to mitigate the damage. In fact, all they do is read from their policy book about how nothing is their responsibility.

I'm taking this to the media and appreciate any help you can offer.

I am extremely vexed and concerned about Merchant Service Providers' ability to rip off honest merchants, charging transaction fees for fraudulent and non-existent transactions. And I'm REALLY pissed off when their answer to merchants' pleas for help is, "read your service agreement."

I have therefore launched http://www.rippedoffbycardserviceinternational.org and invite you (and any of your friends who have credit card accounts for their businesses) to visit. This is a not-for-profit , never-going-to-spam you group that has been formed to protect the rights of merchants -- and that could be you, if you take credit cards -- the world over.

It's a quick, one page site. I'm asking you to help unite merchant victims (and potential victims) of rip-off Merchant Service Providers, in order to get these policies and practices changed.

It's totally free. I'm doing this for the little guy.

*02 Fairness

I have had a really hard time writing this piece,

However, my old West Texas upbringing forces me to do so.

I just witnessed a person "jacked-around" because he signed a legal document several years ago that limited his actions to what he can do today. The documents that he signed said that he cannot do what he needs to do, in order to make a living, because the customers that he sold became property of the company that he represented at that time.

Although I understand the need for a clear understanding, at the outset, of what a person's responsibilities and rights are within any given job, and I understand the need for a company to retain its assets, I also believe that a Corporation, which is an entity within itself, must take on the identity and the integrity of the people who run it. I believe that the case in point would be Enron.

If one is so dominated by one's own power, or need, how can one be "fair"? Fairness is the way one would want to be treated, if one were objective, by someone else. If one stands back and actually perceives it from the other person's point of view, would he actually make the same decision? Or is it possible for him to do so? Is his own self-preservation and enhancement so important that he ignores others'?

Another point - and I'll try to let this go - if one negotiates, in good faith, and is unable to perform, because of whatever circumstances, then the other party needs to look deep within his heart to give him another chance. And I will tell you right now, that's not just Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Communism or whatever one believes, that is just humanity …… the way it should be.

Tip of the Week

Moving toolbars.

Toolbars can often take up a lot of room at the top of the screen. When using programs like Word, you can rearrange these toolbars or make them floating palettes.
To do this, simply:
--Click on a blank space of the Toolbar or Format bar.

--Drag it to the location of your choice. This makes the bar a floating palette. Drag it to any location on the screen.
