New Virus 02. Privacy and Netscape 03. Tip Of The Week *01 New Virus This week a new virus has been spreading to unprotected machines around the globe. This new virus called Bugbear, does some pretty interesting things to the computers it infects. Once activated, the virus shuts down antivirus and firewall software. It starts recording user keystrokes to capture passwords. Then sets up a back door so the virus author or malicious hackers can access a Web interface created by the virus, browse local files on an infected machine, and execute programs on that machine. The virus spreads by sending copies of itself as e-mail attachments on old e-mail messages from the computers it infects, and copies itself onto directories shared by networks that are accessible to the infected computer. So if you are infected by this virus, your private e-mail messages will be sent to everyone in your address book and your computer with your passwords will be open to hackers. These customers are suing the AOL for privacy invasion and the panel found that they are not bound by an end-user licence agreement forcing them into arbitration. AOL was arguing that plaintiffs could not pursue their complaints in the courts because they were obligated to resolve their disputes via arbitration instead. But the panel ruled against AOL on the end-user license issue, they said, “people who obtained SmartDownload had not received reasonable notice of the terms of the agreement, which in most cases were presented to them on the Web page below the download button”. This ruling ought to clear the way for the privacy suits to go forward. Several groups of Netscape users have sued the AOL in recent years, claiming that the SmartDownload software invaded their privacy and violated laws prohibiting electronic surveillance by sending their personal information back to AOL. AOL has turned off the tracking feature. Vegas Vacation has the best rates on Las Vegas Hotel Rooms. Don't make a reservation without calling us first!
