Klez Virus 02. Applying Ethics 03. Tip Of The Week *01 Klez Virus Welcome to The Internet 800 Directory Newsletter. Back in April, I first reported to this group a warning about the dangers of the Klez virus and here we are at the end of the summer with this virus still spreading. On an average day, 40 or more Klez infected e-mails are sent to my inbox. With the older mass mailing viruses like Sircam, you could respond to the sender and help them rid their machine of its virus. Once you find out you have Klez, removing it is easy. Finding out you have the virus is the real problem. Klez, by spoofing return addresses in its mass mailings, has made killing this virus very difficult because the sender doesn’t know they have it. If you are using an unprotected machine, visit this web page (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/), click on Klez, and follow the instruction to see if you have been infected. This page will also tell you how to remove the virus. To protect your computer from this virus follow these steps: -Use updated antivirus software. -Use the latest version of Internet Explorer and Outlook/Outlook Express. -Don’t open attachments without first scanning them for viruses. One of these days I will get off the ethics question, I swear, However, it just dawned upon me that the general public would also make scapegoats out of anybody they can. Are we not as easily susceptible to the issues of violations of ethics as the CEOs, the CF0's, and CPAs? As an example, I am appalled every time I see that a parent of a Little Leaguer just beat upon a coach, when he was trying to instill values within his own child. What values or ethics? Why doesn't the peer group around him (i. e., other parents) ban him from all social conduct for the rest of his life, thereby eliminating him from his social conduct? Am I confusing anthropology for social behavior and, therefore, ethics? As another example, when did start voting for politicians that were dumber than dirt, but we knew that they could get a new dam or road in our county that would benefit us? Where were his, or your, ethics then? When did we start succumbing to the greed that drove these guys to power, money and fame? Is that not upon what our society is based? Is that not what within us? Who among you out there would have voted against a $2.3 million bonus to a CEO that was bringing you the type of money that you felt that you deserved because you invested in him? Where were your ethics then? Where are our ethics as individuals? When do we stop cutting people off in traffic? Speeding? Cheating our employers out of the 40 hours of real work per week we are paid to deliver? Expecting teachers to replace parenting? Expecting that life will go our way and forgetting the needs of our fellow man? No matter how small the cheat, it is cheating. Until we hold ourselves accountable, how do we point fingers at others? The buck stops with each of so and do the ethics. I promised at the fist of this discourse, that, one of these days I would get off the ethics issue. Now, I must renege. Let none of us ever get off of it. Steve Jackson saj@inter800.com Vegas Vacation has the best rates on Las Vegas Hotel Rooms. Don't make a reservation without calling us first! To convert your table to text, simply select the entire table and then choose Table | Convert Table To Text. Choose the appropriate option (Paragraph Marks, Tabs, Commas, or Other) from the Separate Text With panel of the resulting dialog box and click OK. Word quickly converts the table to plain text. You can also use this option to convert text to a table. Just select the text you want to put into a table and select Table | Convert Text To Table. From the Convert Text To Table dialog box, choose the desired options and then click OK. You can even apply an AutoFormat to the table from this dialog box.
