*01 Spam Tool

If you use Outlook 2000 or XP there is a new plug-in that will help you control the spam in your inbox. This program uses a community-based approach to fighting spam. It allows you to block spam messages from your inbox and automatically share that information with all the other people using the program.

The program (still in beta) is provided by a company named Cloudmark and for now is free to use. You will find the plug-in at: http://www.cloudmark.com/

While I have many reservations about how this systems works, it seems to be the direction that programers are moving in spam control.

INTERNET 800 DIRECTORY'S ONLINE TRAFFIC SOARS

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (June 20, 2001) The Internet 800 Directory's online traffic, www.gotollfree.com, continues to soar with an increase in traffic by over 64% in May 2002 over the prior 3 months. Likewise, the number of unique visitors jumped a whopping 54% average, and, based on the first two weeks, in June will exceed the May figures by an additional 17%.

While receiving significant traffic from its affiliates such as Qwest Dex, WorldPages and WhitePages, among others, the largest and most popular online toll free directory has also benefited from the increasing number of web sites and links that are utilizing toll free numbers for sales and service. Recent studies suggest that as much as 85% of web-based transactions are completed by phone, with toll free calling being the most obvious method.

The recent trend by major search engines and portals, such as Overture, Google, LookSmart and others to build a pay-per-position model is one that the 800 Directory has used for years. "Most Internet-savvy users go online with a goal in mind. If they want to buy something they use a simple key word search engine and ignore the banners and the pop-ups. Therefore, someone looking for a toll free number goes to the directory to place a call for say, "hotels". He can also click over to the web site on the same search, but our ad customers indicate that they still receive a 5 to 1 ratio of phone calls versus web orders. " said Steven A. Jackson, President of Digital Information and Network Co., Inc., the Tollfree directory's parent.

The directory is a "doubly-targeted" site that allows its advertisers to take advantage of the Internet's continued growth with links to their web sites and by providing the toll free number for which the user is searching. In a December 2001 report, Frost & Sullivan estimates that 90% of Americans use toll-free numbers. The U.S. toll-free services market generated $17.28 billion in revenues in 2000.
