Web Page Titles 02. Pop Up Ad Spammer, Banned 03. Tip Of The Week *01 Web Page Titles There are two aspects to a properly functioning web site. The first is the visual component (graphics and text). This is the part that everybody sees when he or she visits your site. The second part is hidden from your visitors in the html coding of your site. These underlying structural components are critical in having your site found in search engines and include things we have covered in past newsletters like Meta tags. Web page titles falls into to both groups. It is seen at the top of the browser, used in bookmarks and indexed and displayed by search engines. Web page titles are placed at the top of the web page in the header, along with your Meta tags. <head> <title>Your Title Here</title> </head> The title of you’re your web page has several important functions: -Titles are displayed at the top of the browser. -Search engines heavily weight titles. -Titles are the headings on search results pages. -Titles become the name of bookmarks. Think of your title as the headline of your web page. Does your title grab attention? If you saw your title on a list, would you stop scrolling and click on it? Newspapers have used headlines for years to sell papers, because they know that consumers often make decisions based on headlines or titles. Go to your favorite search engine and search key words that your customers would use to find your service or product. Review the titles that your competitors use. Take note of good and bad titles. This will help form ideas for your own titles. When crafting your titles, remember to use important key words to help with the search engines. Don’t use unnecessary words such as: home, site, web and page. Provide your potential viewers with an accurate description of the content of the page. Zuccarini was registering Internet domain names that were misspellings of legitimate domain names and incorporating transposed or inverted words or phrases. He had registered 15 variations of a popular children's cartoon site and 41 variations of the name, “Britney Spears”. Zuccarini employed more than 5,500 copycat domain names to divert surfers from their intended destinations to one of his sites. Once surfers landed on Zuccarini’s sites, it was very difficult for them to exit. In a move called "mousetrapping," special programming code at the sites obstructed surfers' ability to close their browser or go back to the previous page. Clicks on the "close" or "back" buttons caused new windows to open, with ads for pornography, gambling sites, and psychic services. Sometimes the legitimate Web site was also opened, so the surfer believed the ads were from the genuine Web site. On May 24 a U.S. District Court has ordered Zuccarini to halt his illegal practices. The court permanently banned the defendant from: redirecting or obstructing consumers on the Internet in connection with the advertising, promoting, offering for sale, selling, or providing any goods or services on the Internet, the World Wide Web or any Web page or Web site; and launching the Web sites of others without their permission. The defendant will be required to give up $1,897,166 in gains from ad sales. Chuck Arning chuck@inter800.com Vegas Vacation has the best rates on Las Vegas Hotel Rooms.
