Welcome to The Internet 800 Directory Newsletter. Chuck is vacationing in California, so George Paul, VP of Marketing and Sales will be taking over this week's newsletter.

Hi, First, I'd like to share the results of some research we have conducted this week. Later, I'm going to make available a special offer only to recipients of this newsletter, so stayed tuned.

We received a list of the top 25 web sites (by traffic) for the month of March 2001. Of these 25, 14 are search engines. They are (in order): AOL, Yahoo, MSN, Lycos, Excite, About, NBCi, C/Net, AskJeeves, GoTo, AltaVista, Google, LookSmart, & Go2Net.

As you are all aware, it is critical for your potential customers to be able to find your web site. When a company achieves a top 10 ranking in a major search engine like Yahoo, AltaVista, or Lycos it seems like it won the lottery. The Internet 800 Directory has achieved an almost unequaled success in this highly important endeavor.

We did a search for the term, "800 directory" in each of these engines and The Internet 800 Directory web site was returned first in all but GoTo. GoTo features paid listings and we have not paid to advertise with them. Still, we are listed 5th in GoTo, after the four paying advertisers (2 of which link to us).

Further, in addition to the wonderful placement we enjoy in each of these search engines, many of them provide our toll free search service direct from their web site (such as Lycos & AltaVista).

The point? Aside from blowing our own horn, I wanted to impact upon you how well positioned the Internet 800 Directory is to receive toll free searches. We have been at this longer than anyone else and have worked very hard at promoting our directory. As a result, we are clearly the most popular Internet based toll free directory. Period.

Most important is that the real winners are the advertisers within the Internet 800 Directory, because, regardless of how a view gets to the Directory – via a search engine, a direct inquiry to the URLs or via one of our partners – the advertiser is always in a priority position over other listings. These two elements make the Internet 800 Directory a “doubly-targeted” marketing and advertising medium. Not only can it be FOUND, it delivers priority positioning to its advertisers and does it with key word searches. Since over an amazing 25% of all page impressions lead to an immediate search, the directory’s viewers are looking for a company to call or visit its web site. This also directly correlates to the importance of having one’s toll free number prominently displayed on the web site.

As great as I think we are, we do have one glaring shortcoming. We do not "push" our advertising as aggressively as we should. In fact, a good number of the businesses listed don't even know we offer any type of advertising beyond a Free Listing. To rectify this situation, I am taking advantage of Chuck's absence to bring you this limited time offer:

Any business that purchases an annual ad (Enhanced or Bold) between now and next Friday will receive a 50% discount off the published rate. For details on rates and features, visit: http://inter800.com/featured.htm

For those who would prefer to advertise on a monthly basis, rather than annually, when you buy your first month's ad, I will give you the second one Free. Enhanced Listings cost $59.95 per month and Bold are $29.95 per month.

If you have any questions about this offer, the 800 directory or advertising in it, call or email George Paul (george@gotollfree.com). Please do me one other favor, let's not mention any of this to Chuck when he gets back.
