SUBJECT:Internet Sales Tax

Welcome to The Internet 800 Directory Newsletter. Last week, I made an error in the link for the archive page of the newsletter. The correct address for this page is: http://inter800.com/news800/archive/ Thanks to all of you who sent me notice of this error.

Based on the feedback I received last week, it seems many of you have turned your toll free numbers into links. It was nice to here of the success some of you have already had from the web site visitors using the link. Several individuals wrote in asking about the cost of using this service. There is no additional cost. The only cost is the normal charge you receive whenever someone uses your toll free number.

This week sales tax on the Internet was making news again. In October of 1998 President Clinton signed into law the Internet Tax Freedom act. This act provided for a three-year moratorium of taxes on goods and services purchased over the internet.

The current moratorium on Internet sales tax ends in October of this year. This week, the Vice President called on Congress to extend it. Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) introduced a bill in February that would extend the tax moratorium through 2006, while "encouraging" states to simplify their sales and use taxes. Make sure you let your elected officials know just how you feel on this issue or we could be reporting to more than 7,000 taxing jurisdictions in November.

If you have any thoughts on this subject or any ideas that could be helpful to the others in this group send them to me (Chuck Arning) at chuck@inter800.com
