Newsletter ArchiveSUBJECT: Building Traffic Welcome to The Internet 800 Directory Newsletter. I want to start by thanking the people in New York and Blue Bell, PA for their hospitality while I was visiting their cities. One question that has been sent to me more than a few times is, "How do I build traffic to my web site?" Let me give you my thoughts on the subject. Maybe you will find something that might help you in this pursuit. Due to the complexity of this issue, I'm going to cover this in several parts. Step One Before you can work on building traffic to your site, you need to determine a few things about your web site. The first thing you need to do is define the purpose for your web site. Ask yourself a couple of basic questions: Why do I have a web site? A web site can have many different reasons for existing. Before you start building traffic, you need to define your web site and it's goals. You must be realistic about what you expect to accomplish with your resources. For most companies, a good place to start would be providing an online brochure for the education of future customers. Another easily achievable goal might be providing customer service or new product information to your current customer base. If you don't have a clear idea of what you want your site to accomplish, it could do more harm than good. Does my web site design coincide with the goals set for it? I have never been to a retail outlet that makes me go through several rooms before I get to see their wares. I have been to web sites that make me visit 4 or 5 pages before I can buy. I have seen online brochure sites with no contact information on their site. Make sure your site design matches your goal. After you've decided what you want you want your site to accomplish, and made sure your site matches that goal, it is time to start bringing visitors to your site. Next week I will discuss what I feel is the next step in traffic building. All Contents Copyright ©1995-2001 The Internet 800 Directory Subscribe To The Newsletter: |
