SUBJECT: Free Listings; Key Words

Another week has passed and it's time for the Internet 800 Directory's Newsletter. I want to start by saying thank you to all of you who sent in ideas and suggestions for the newsletter. The area that generated the most requests was the space given for key words in free listings. A free listing allows only 21 characters for key words. I know that's not much room. Let me give you some tips on how to make the most of it:

1. Don't use a word that is already in your company name. If your company name is XYZ Fish Market, do not repeat the word "fish" in your key word section. "Fish" will work as a key word because it is already present in your company name.

2. We use a key word search, so don't try to describe your service. Use words that a customer looking for your product or service would search for. Never use words like: we, and, or, the, etc.

3. Don't use punctuation. It counts as a character.

On this note, we do not use a "category" system. You may list whatever you deem appropriate in the space provided. When selecting your key words, ask yourself, "what would someone be searching for when I want them to see my toll free listing?"

Another way to increase the number of key words in your listing is to advertise. When you purchase a Bold or Enhanced listing you receive more key words AND your listing will be returned before any of the free listings.

Next week I will be traveling to New York to meet with some Investment Bankers. I would still like to hear any ideas or suggestions you might have for the newsletter, but because I will be on the road, don't expect a reply this week. Send your comments, suggestions, etc. to chuck@inter800.com

One last thing before I go. Last week, when I asked for war stories, I was thinking of business-related "war stories". When I received a note from the Secretary of the 340th Bomb Wing Association offering to share some of his "war stories", I was surprised. On the toll free side of things, with members spread out all over the United States, they rely on their toll free number to help set up their reunions. Henry, thank you for your correspondence and thanks to all in your group for your service to our country.
